Questions About Counseling?

Naturally, many people come to me with counseling questions, before deciding to do counseling. Here are some common questions I regularly hear from clients.

1. Is counseling right for me?

Counseling FAQ'sPeople come to counseling for lots of reasons. Life is hard and all of us have problems. Whether you are struggling with personal issues or relationship conflict, counseling empowers you with the tools to improve your situation. Counseling teaches you how to make sense of the “nonsense” in your life.

People who attend counseling enjoy:

  • Better quality of life
  • More satisfying personal/professional relationships
  • Overall sense of wellness and contentment
  • Lower levels of anxiety and stress

2. What is a therapy session like?

Many people are concerned about what a therapy session is like. They want to know what to expect. When you come into my office, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable. I want you to be yourself. I am here to help you, not judge you.

Some people need someone to talk to, someone to listen. Other people need help with figuring out solutions to problems. I will listen to you carefully to understand what your needs are. I do not believe in “one size fits all” counseling. Your counseling plan will be based on your specific needs.

3. Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Your counseling sessions with me are completely confidential. Keeping your information safe is my top priority. Everyone needs someone to talk to without fear of others finding out. My office adheres to strict ethical and legal standards of privacy, with the following exceptions: If you are a threat of harm to yourself or to someone else or if there is evidence of active child or elderly abuse, I must report to ensure your safety and the safety of others.

4. Will my insurance cover counseling sessions?

I am a provider on numerous insurance panels.  To find out if I am a provider for your policy, please call my office 334-671-1280 and speak to my office manager, Lisa.  She will be happy to assist you.

5. What are your office hours? How much are the sessions?

My office hours are Monday-Thursday from 8:00 am until 5:00 p.m.  Each counseling session is 50 to 60 minutes and is $135.00 per session.
